Two Poems by Zaira Menon

The Warmth of the Diya
The vibrant diya
It’s light flickers from the winds trying to extinguish it
My hands shields it from the harsh winds coming for it
It’s light shines in the cold darkness of the night
Signifying the warmth of my loved ones
Helping me through the darkness of my life
I set it down outside my doorstep
Luring good luck and love towards my house
It’s light shines brighter now
I think it’s gained strength
And can now handle the cruel winds tormenting it
Holi Festival
Handfuls of color in the air
On the ground is a vibrant array of powder
Like how we are all different
In our own way
Fun, laughter, and joy is everywhere
Each throw of color
Symbolizing love
Time flies when we’re bonding with friends and family
Inside our hearts
Valuable memories will always stay
And when times get tough we can always remember the
Love filled in the times that we went through together
